THE FRIENDS OF ST PETER'S CHURCH THURLEIGH [page last updated 30/3/12]

Our beautiful and historic church building needs friends to care for it. We need to maintain and improve the church structure and fittings for the future so that it can continue to be a special place for worship, weddings and other celebrations, but also for other social and community events where the church is appropriate. (eg: concerts, as the acoustics are really good for some types of music.) In 1945 the church building was in such a poor state and considered unsafe that it was closed and became derelict. Fortunately some Thurleigh villagers made a huge effort to raise funds and the church was partly restored and re-opened in 1959, and fully re-opened in 1970. We really must not let the building deteriorate again. So the recently formed independent Trust called "The Friends of St Peter's Church Thurleigh" has been setup to do this, and appointed Trustees are in place as the 'committee'. They are looking for people to join them as 'friends' by either being on a list of helpers to organise fund raising events in Thurleigh, or by giving a monthly donation, or of course both. NOTE: An open meeting about the Friends took place in St Peter's Church on Mon 13th February 2012 and from this various actions and plans were initiated. It includes running a promotional 'Friends' table at the Jubilee event in Thurleigh on 4th June '12, and a 'Safari Supper' on 30th June '12. Safari Supper tickets: 30th June 2012. £10 each. Good wine, good food and good company! Supper begins in the church with wine and nibbles at 6.45pm, and ends with deserts and coffee at the church, but other parts of the meal hosted elsewhere.
